World Bank Supervision Mission - October 2006:
 
The World Bank supervision mission lead by Karin E Kemper for BWSPP and BAMWSP visited Bangladesh during October 1-3, 2006. The mission discussed the current and future project activities with all concerned officials of the project, DPHE and Local Government Division . The mission also visited a completed rural Piped water supply Scheme under BAMWSP.

World Bank Supervision Mission - June 2006:
 
The World Bank supervision mission for BWSPP and BAMWSP visited Bangladesh during June 11-22, 2006. The mission discussed the current and future project activities with all concerned officials of the project, DPHE, Local Government Division and different stakeholders. The mission also visited project interventions  different areas.

New consultants of BWSPP

As part of the PMU strengthening, specialized consultants in different sectors are being recruited. So far 22 Consultants have been joined with the project.


Briefing Workshops held

Briefing on RPWSS to the selected Sponsors held in 20-21 November. 97 selected sponsors attended the workshop.
 

Internal communication workshops at 09 DPHE circles held with presence of all DPHE local officials.
 

Briefing on PPWSS to the 03 selected municipalities held. Respective pourashava officials including chairman and ward commissioners, local DPHE officials were present on the workshop.


June 2005


BWSPP Inaugural Workshop held

 

The BWSPP launch workshop was held from June 4-6, 2005. It was officially inaugurated on June 4 by Mr. Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, Hon’ble Minister for the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (MoLGRD&C), Mr A. H.M. Abul Qasem, Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (MoLGRD&C), Md. Kurshed Alam, DPHE Chief Engineer and Mr. David Hughart, Bangladesh Country Director (Acting). Other key participants during the 2-day residential workshop, held on June 5 and 6 in Tangail, included DPHE Superintendent Engineers, Pourashava Chairmen, donors (JICA and APSU/DFID), the BWSPP Project Director, BAMWSP/BWSPP project staff and the mission team.

Workshop discussions focused on outlining specific next steps over the coming 12 months necessary to achieve expected outcomes – which all fed into the first-year workplan. The workshop included technical sessions on each of the project components: rural piped water supply; water supply and sanitation in medium sized towns (pourashavas); non-piped arsenic mitigation activities in arsenic-affected villages; capacity building, regulation and training; and monitoring and evaluation. Other sessions focused on internal communications, financial management and procurement arrangements, project management and institutional arrangements; and inter-agency coordination.

February 2005

BWSPP Project Director

Mr. Md Khoda Bux, The present Project Director of BAMWSP has been given additional responsibilities as the Project Director of BWSPP.

BWSPP PP Approved by DPEC

The PP of the project was approved by DPEC on February 23, 2005.

New Executive Engineers of BWSPP

Mr. Fariduddin Akter Khan and Mr. AKM ibrahim has been deputed as Executive Engineer (Administration) and Executive Engineer (Urban and Rural water Supply) respectively. Presently they are working in BAMWSP.

January 2005

BWSPP PCP Approved by ECNEC

The PCP of the project was approved by ECNEC on January 9, 2005 and Minutes of the ECNEC meeting, signed by the Prime Minister were issued on January 30.
